Isn’t it amazing how doing the right thing can get and keep you ahead of the game? As small business owners, it’s important for us stick to the basics. That means not giving up on your beliefs. That means doing what is right. Sometimes, you have to give a little to get much more.
The Village
Another school shooting. More of our youth lost to senseless tragedy. I usually blog about my experience as a small business owner or share tips that entrepreneurs can use to help them grow. But, after the shooting in South Florida on Wednesday, I feel I must say something. Guns do not belong in our schools. Guns do not belong in the hands of our youth. We have to do something in our communities. We have to be involved in our kids’ lives. We have to speak up when we see our children going astray.
Promote... and Shine!
We all know the importance of promoting a product or service. Sharing the power of your voice is essential. It is an item that needs to be a part of your budget. Please don’t be afraid to invest in your company. You took the leap of faith to start your business. So, it’s a must that you do what is necessary to sustain your investment.
Make the Time
The days turn into nights quickly (at least for this small business owner). It seems as if the work never ends. Entrepreneurs are often planning the next strategy. Their search never ends for growth opportunities, ways to advertise, products to purchase and staff to hire. I always say that owning a business is no joke. That is why time management is key.
Communicating in the New Era
How do you market your brand? I want to make this blog a little different. I will not only share my thoughts, but I would like your feedback. What do you find works best for your company in this new era? We all know social media is an effective form of communication. It’s how and when you use it that will determine the outcome. Are you posting at key times? Do you have engaging content? Are you using video to share the power of your voice?

Conquer the Fear
We all have fears. It can be scary stepping out of the box and trying something new. Entrepreneurs, we know that first step can be terrifying. There are so many questions. Will this venture be successful? Will I be able to make enough money to pay the bills? But, we have to try and then, try again. I recently talked with a friend about starting her own business. She has a lot of talent and a lot to offer. Her response, “I’m scared.”
Bring Your "A" Game
As small business owners, we must always find ways to stay ahead of the game. Are you keeping up with the latest HR strategies? Do you have the most updated technology to keep your business running? How are you telling others about your services/products? You have to be willing to share the power of your voice.
Open That Door
Can you believe 2017 is almost over? This has been an interesting year with a few changes for me. Change can be difficult or different, but it’s what you make of it that matters. Change can also be a good thing. Sometimes, you need to step back or remove yourself from a situation to realize that bigger things are on the horizon. As Oprah once said, “Turn your wounds into wisdom.”
THINK BIG
As one year ends and a new one begins, this is a great time to reevaluate your goals. Think about how you plan to attract new customers. What will it take for you to increase your business output and revenue? First, get rid of the bad habits and negative thoughts you had in 2017. A friend gave me a piece of great advice to take into 2018. It’s simple and you’ve probably heard it before: “THINK BIG!”
