Networking is an essential step to success. As a small business owner, you have to be around people to drum up business. Sometimes, that can be hard, especially when you are initially getting started. (You are in front of the computer for hours setting up social media sites and websites and getting your paperwork in order.) Some people are shy and don’t like being around crowds. I want to share my two cents about engaging with community and business leaders.
You have to break out of your shell. You have to meet and call potential clients. I have talked with several people recently who told me they don’t like making or receiving cold calls. But don’t let that stop you from making them. In my opinion, it’s okay to call and introduce yourself and your business. Here’s another gem you can use. Get involved with organizations that will help you grow. This is a great way to meet people and potentially gain new business. Attend as many workshops and conferences as you can and soak up the knowledge. If you are on a budget, look for free workshops and conferences.
Another critical component of successful networking is building relationships. Make those face to face connections. Don’t forget about maintaining those relationships on social media. This is the new era. Take that bold step!
